Eco-design
{ "Reducing the environmental footprint of a website follows the same principles as low-carbon logistics": "carry just what is needed, as far as it needs to go." }
Our approach
The purpose of the Delta 3 platform is to reduce the carbon footprint of freight transport through modal shift. It was only consistent to apply the same standard of restraint to its website.
Web eco-design means limiting the resources used on each visit: volume of data transferred, computing power needed on the server side as well as on the visitor's device, and equipment lifespan.
(to be completed: specify the quantified targets you wish to display, for example a target page weight or an EcoIndex score)
Our technical choices
Several structuring decisions aim to limit the site's resource consumption.
- Pre-generated pages: pages are computed in advance and served as they are, which avoids redoing the same work on every visit.
- Lean media: images are compressed and resized to their actual display size; they are only loaded when they become visible.
- Lightweight interface: no superfluous animation, a system font and a deliberately reduced number of scripts.
- No advertising trackers: the site includes no advertising tracking mechanism and no non-essential third-party delivery network.
- Hosting: (to be completed: state the data centre used and, if the information is available, its energy mix)
Our areas for improvement
Eco-design is an ongoing process: every change to the site is an opportunity to re-examine what can be lightened or removed.
